What is LIFE Co-op?

LIFE Co-op Vision

Local Initiative for Future Energy Co-operative Inc. (LIFE Co-op) is a sustainable energy co-operative with a growing membership based in Wilmot Township, ON.

Our current projects include:

Bio-gas: We have recieved $40,000 from the Canadian Co-operative Association's Ag-CDI program to study the feasibility of establishing a cluster of bio-gas or "green methane" installations on local farms in the Region of Waterloo area.

Wind: LIFE was recently awarded a $40,000 grant from the Community Power Fund (CPF) for the Feasibility Study and related activities for the St. Agatha Wind Project. The 60 m. test tower at the site has been collecting data since August 2008, and the grant will allow a year's worth of data to be audited. With the financial assistance of the CPF, LIFE has hired a project manager to oversee the completion of a business plan and grid connection assessment.

Community Power

Unlike regular corporations who just want your money, co-operatives encourage all members to be actively involved. We have many volunteer opportunities, including task groups, committees and serving on the Board of Directors.
